TAIB relaunches Akaun Tekad Haji
Tuesday, 22nd November 2011

Today marked another milestone in Perbadanan TAIB’s history as Akaun Tekad Haji, a unique savings account designed for Muslims who intend to perform Haj, was relaunched. First introduced in 1994, the account features have been revised to enable individuals to financially plan ahead for Haj.

The relaunch was officiated by Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Dr. Haji Mohammad bin Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahman, Minister of Religious Affairs cum Advisor to TAIB Board of Directors at Dewan Mahligai of the Airport Mall, Berakas. Invited guests included Board of Directors of Perbadanan TAIB and its subsidiaries, members of TAIB Syariah Advisory Committee, Senior Officials from the government departments as well as the private sector.

In his welcoming speech, Awang Yusof bin Haji Abd Rahman, the Managing Director of Perbadanan TAIB said, ‘In some countries, the registration for Haj pilgrimage is by queue system or by vote. Alhamdullillah, presently in Brunei Darussalam such registration does not exist. Nonetheless, financial arrangements for the pilgrimage should be considered.’

New features include lower initial amount required for account opening and it is open to all ages. Following the event, Perbadanan TAIB will embark on an awareness campaign together with partners in the public and private sectors, including setting up roadshows within its Kiulap Branch on 25th and 26th November and Tanjong Bunut Branch on 9th and 10th December 2011.

The Managing Director added that although the changes to the account features are minimal, it is hoped they will help allow customers to begin systematically saving even with a small amount from a young age. ‘With continued efforts accompanied with prayers, it is hoped the planned efforts will enhance the growth of savings towards Haj. Insya Allah, this will be able to realize His Majesty’s noble aspiration for Muslim citizens and permanent residents in this country to perform the fifth pillar of Islam.’
